Congrats Mackenna

Yeah, today Mackenna joined the big girl group by learning to ride her two wheeled bike. It literally took 5 minutes. I went to make some mac-n-cheese and returned to find that Kevin was no longer needing to help her at all. I figured that she was ready after seeing her race around on her scooter, but I didn't think that it would be that fast. I am so proud of her and you can see the big smile on her face.

I have a book recommendation if anyone is interested. It is called the Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. We finished it not long ago for our book club and it is great. It is a memoir about the childhood of Jeannette as she was raised by an alcoholic father and a very quirky mother. I highly recommend this one. Currently I am reading Loving Frank about a long time affair of Frank Lloyd Wright, and also just finished The Book Thief, which I also liked. I'll let you know about Loving Frank when I am through. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Happy Last Day

Today was the last day of school for Haylee and we decided to have a little impromptu party. When the kids got home, the ice cream truck was waiting for them and we had a little parade around the block as the kids followed the truck. When we got back to the neighbors, the kids had some yummy snacks and played with water balloons. Later Haylee went to our other neighbors house to swim in their pool and I went across the street to have a few drinks with the neighborhood ladies. It was a celebration all around. Happy last day everyone. Oh and by the way, I now have a second grader AND and kindergartner living with me. WOW.

Ice cream,pools, and coconuts.

Here are a few new pictures of the kids and Kevin. Last week Claire got her first taste of an ice cream cone. She couldn't believe that I was actually giving it to her to hold all by herself. She kept leaning in to take a bite while I was trying to hand it to her. Once she understood, she LOVED it. She watched Mackenna eat her ice cream and followed her lead. She ate every last bit (except what is on her face) and grinned from ear to ear about it. Yesterday was hot and humid, so I decided to blow up the small pool that we have. Kenna and Claire played beautifully together with plenty of splashing and head dunking. I just love watching the two of them interact and it will be sad when Kenna goes off to school next year. Claire adores her. I even dunked my feet into the frigid water. The last picture is of Kevin in his Hawaiian costume for the end of the year party with the middle school staff. Check out those sexy coconuts.
